The program of homecraft and life skills-classes took off in 2010 with the idea of providing young girls and women with knowledge and important skills in order to improve their future prospects. Lot’s of girls do not complete secondary or even primary school and only a minority can afford higher education. In our one-year program the girls learn tailoring, embroidering, cooking and hygiene and also life-skills, such as self-defence (sexual violence continues to be a frequent problem in many areas) and future-planning. To make up for lost school-years, we help them improve their writing, reading and mathematical skills. During the year, the girls learn how to craft small jewelry and sell it in order to have a small income while being trained and also to cover the course-fee.
